Civic Education in Basic School: Problems and Challenges in the Digital Age

This paper focus on the analysis of preliminary data of an ongoing study involving Portuguese teachers and students, in the non-disciplinary curricular area of Civic Education. The project aims at encouraging collaborative behaviour in educational communities, involving teachers and students in the development of digital contents, and at exploring different issues on citizenship education, under a case-based methodology. We believe this action research study is of relevance because it can unveil examples of good practices and innovative teaching strategies that need to be disseminated in this compulsory subject taking into account the results of recent studies, which exposed some of the inefficiency of the strategies adopted so far

Organizational innovation : research into the information / training paths of decision-makers within hospitals

Innovation is fundamental for the development of any organization, being achieved not only through the new products/services and the renewed processes offered, but also through managerial practices. In order to introduce innovative practices, an organization should adopt a managerial model of innovation that includes organizational innovation processes based on professional competences, people manage­ment skills and their influence on the decision-making process. It is with this in mind that we propose a model that provides room for reflection on the reality of the health service organization. The model allows us to conclude that the path to be followed by these health units in the public health sector will be a long and arduous one if they are to achieve an efficient implementation of the innovation process at the knowledge level of professions, together with a real and effective organizational performance

A gestão das misericórdias: estudo do impacto da orientação para o mercado social no desempenho, moderada pela aprendizagem organizacional e inovação

O propósito deste artigo é proporcionar aos dirigentes das Misericórdias ferramentas que possam contribuir para melhorar o desempenho e a competitividade das suas organizações, explorando as relações entre os conceitos orientação de mercado, aprendizagem organizacional, inovação e desempenho. É questionado a utilização de metodologias de gestão nestas organizações e sugere-se o aprofundamento dos estudos e a consciencialização sobre a importância da sua aplicação para melhorar o desempenho nas mesmas. A gestão das organizações sem fins lucrativos deve passar para outra configuração, diferente do informalismo que as caracteriza. A questão que se põe nesta realidade é que estas, enquanto organizações complexas, devem procurar adoptar novas ferramentas de gestão que lhes permita alcançar a sustentabilidade, ao mesmo tempo em que procuram atingir a sua missão social no universo que estão inseridas. Social Model—Innovation and Behavioural Intervention as a Public Policy of Action within an Oncology and Loneliness Scope

: The article presents concepts and the Public Health Policy University of Lisbon Lab project to answer questions about the macro-environment of cancer and loneliness. Although the biomedical model has considered the disease’s general symptoms, it takes a holistic approach to incorporate several other circumstances that influence health. Emotional, social, psychological, and economic factors mirror influencing layers that affect wellness. Portugal follows Europe’s tendency and simultaneously reflects its reality. Governmental internal policies, amplified by regulations, improve disease prevention and treatment. Nevertheless, it focuses on the general population instead of on the individual. Once cancer, one of the leading causes of global death, is perceived as an isolated incident, we believe macro-environmental circumstances, and not only biological ones, must be considered. Furthermore, cancer in the elderly intensifies solicitude, and expanded policies and actions demand individual health determinants. In the Portuguese Public Health Policy, we started a collaborative Oncology, Human Kinetics, and Public Health Policy project. This is the first project of the Public Health Policy Lab from the Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon. Based on a brief review of two research projects on improving cancer patients’ health, we promote micro-organisational projects to deal with the social phenomena of loneliness, physical activity, and lifestyle. As a sequence of the well-known social determinants, we endorse political determinants as the basis for public health. The latest worldwide governmental trend is to create public labs as an innovation of political policymaking. Managers’ Competences in Private Hospitals for Investment Decisions during the COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed an unprecedented challenge for health systems worldwide. The increased demand for investment in hospitals has become one of the greatest financial vulnerabilities, and in this context, the manager’s involvement in decision-making is associated with better analysis in order to achieve better results. This article aims to define a model to outline the manager profile in private hospitals, as well as the process and the relationship with investment decision-making, so as to guide future work to improve institutions’ performance and ensure the sustainability of patient care processes and the use of resources. Semi-structured interviews were held with an administrative (or financial) director in Brazil, Canada and Portugal and analyzed by the conventional content analysis method and coded, using NVivo 11, identifying the main topics. A model for investment decision-making is proposed to improve resource allocation and performance. The results indicate, for multidisciplinary training, where managers contribute to an efficient use of resources and contribute to the maintenance of quality of care, including about investment and financing of hospitals, where performance analysis reflects on decision-making.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

FAMILY HEALTH MANAGEMENT AND POVERTY IN AN ECONOMIC RECESSION PERIOD IN PORTUGAL

Abstract: The main purpose of this article, in the management and health, was to assess the contribution of family health and its role in local development in the context of economic recession and worsening poverty in Portugal. Material and Methods. Data were collected through the questionnaire, 1021 individuals were inquired in Portugal, with statistical treatment through inferential analysis, factorial and regression. They were asked to participate voluntarily in writing through email participating randomly. The sample was stratified by District, a territorial division used in the country. The respondents A response rate was 48%. The validity of established factors was evaluated through a confirmatory factor analysis with AMOS software. The consistency was measured with Cronbach's α. We used the "measure of the adequacy of sampling Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin" (KMO = 0.668) and the "sphericity test Barthlet" (χ2 = 1611.452; df = 276; Sig = 0.000). To analyze the average life expectancy by region it was considered the Life expectancy at Birth (LE - Average number of years a person can expect to live at birth, keeping the mortality rates by age observed in the reference time) from the National Institute of Statistics. Results and Conclusions. In the descriptive summary, the aspect of life considered more important for respondents is the health (49.5%), followed by family (45.4%), work (2.8%) and cash (1.3%). It is therefore possible to act on health and focusing on critical variables that have a material impact on the perception of health and the connection to the average life expectancy, development indicator. A formação profissional a distância em Portugal : desafios e potencialidades

Numa sociedade global e digital caracterizada pela disseminação da informação e pelo conhecimento, deter elevados níveis de especialização, ter a capacidade de identificar, intermediar e resolver problemas são competências fundamentais para qualquer profissional, assumindo-se por isso como necessário olhar para a formação profissional contínua e para o papel estratégico que esta representa e deve desempenhar na procura de mais competitividade e inovação. O presente artigo integra-se num estudo mais alargado sobre a importância do desenho estratégico da formação profissional à distância e baseia-se numa reflexão crítica em torno dos resultados de uma revisão de literatura de estudos publicados entre 2000 e 2015 no Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Nogueira, Pessoa e Gallego, 2016). Apresentamos, neste seguimento, algumas conclusões de estudos que revelam os desafios e potencialidades da formação profissional a distância em Portugal que acreditamos necessitam de ser trabalhadas de forma articulada e concertada a curto, médio prazo.In a global and digital society, characterized by the dissemination of information and knowledge, holding high levels of expertise and having the ability to identify, mediate and solve problems are essential skills for any professional, that is way is necessary to look at continuous vocational training and the strategic role it plays and must play for achieving more competitiveness and innovation. Pollination Services Provided by Melipona quadrifasciata Lepeletier (Hymenoptera: Meliponini) in Greenhouses with Solanum lycopersicum L. (Solanaceae)

Stingless bees are considered particularly promising for use as commercial pollinators, but studies testing the effectiveness of these bees in pollinating grape tomatoes in greenhouses have not yet been made. This study aimed to analyse the floral biology of the grape tomato and evaluate whether additional pollination performed by Melipona quadrifasciata Lepeletier, 1836 generates an effective increase in production and improves the quality of this variety of tomato when grown in greenhouses. The research was conducted in two greenhouses located in Araguari, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. In one, we only used a mechanical method of pollination and, in the other, pollination by the mechanical method was associated with pollination performed by the bees. The productivity of the greenhouses was compared by recording the number of flowers and fruits formed on different branches, and the quality of the tomatoes was assessed by analysing their size, weight, number of seeds and total sugar content. Tomatoes originating from flowers visited by M. quadrifasciata workers produced about 47% more seeds and their concentration of sugar was approximately 14% higher. These results suggest that using M. quadrifasciata for tomato pollination shows promise, since positive effects were generated on fruit quality

Análise das redes de stakeholders e qualidade de relacionamento em turismo: o caso do Parque Nacional Peneda Gerês

This paper draws insights from three key strategic management theories: the stakeholder theory, the network theory and the relationship quality theory. It examines how viable tourism policies could best be developed in PGNP, considering the stakeholder networks related to tourism, specifically by considering the relationship quality (trust, commitment and cooperation). Under this view it addresses the structure, nature and composition of ties among PNPG stakeholders using social network analysis (SNA) methodology, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. Additionally, the study categorizes stakeholders according to the "stakeholder salience" model, illustrates the relationship quality among the network and stakeholder's positioning in a complex structure of relationships informing about interactions, providing possible directions to minimize potential constraints in networks.Este artigo reúne contributos de três importantes teorias no âmbito da gestão estratégica, a saber: a teoria dos stakeholders, a teoria de redes e a teoria da qualidade do relacionamento. Pretende examinar como podem ser desenvolvidas políticas de turismo viáveis no PNPG considerando as redes de atores ligados ao turismo, analisando especificamente a qualidade do relacionamento (confiança, compromisso e cooperação). Tendo em conta esta perspetiva, este artigo analisa a estrutura, a natureza e a composição das interações entre os stakeholders do PNPG com recurso à metodologia de redes sociais, combinando técnicas qualitativas e quantitativas.
